I often prescribe taurine for its beneficial effects on the brain however it can also produce significant weight loss in overweight people[i].
I recommend buying this in powder form, if you try to take it in tablet or capsule form it a lot of pills to swallow. It is cheap and completely tasteless, you can put the powder in your drinking water and consume it throughout the day.

You can use PGX or glucomannan on its own, PGX comes in a variety of forms capsules and powders, try a variety of the products to choose the one that you like to use. You may not have to take these high-fibre products with every meal, every day for the rest of your life, you may choose to use them regularly in the beginning of your treatment and then only use them when you are exposed to a big high calorie meal such as when you eat out in a restaurant for example:

Probiotics can significantly improves outcomes; the balance of bacteria in our intestines can significantly affect our body weight, they can reduce inflammation throughout the body including the brain and research is beginning to identify which is specific strains are beneficial for weight loss.
In one study weight loss on a weight maintenance programme was enhanced by 50% in people taking Lactobacillus rhamnous compared to people taking a placebo[ii].
The bacteria that has been studied the most and numerous studies have shown to have an anti-overweight effect is Lactobacillus gasseri. You can obtain both Lactobacillus rhamnous and Lactobacillus gasseri in the following products:
I often prescribe Lactobacillus reuteri because it has beneficial effects [insert reference] and reducing overactivity  in the HPA axis, overactivity in the HPA stress pathway leads to overproduction of the stress hormone cortisol and this can result in increased storage of body fat. If you believe your weight issue is in any way connected to high levels of stress or even if you just leave you carry high levels of stress combine this strain of bacteria with performing 45 to 50 hours of deep relaxation brain training exercises (see The Stress Solution); you can a combination containing Lactobacillus with combat the stress/weight connection and Lactobacillus rhamnous from:
Primadophillus superior probiotic multi-strain for these two bacteria, it’s available in capsules and powder which is cheaper.
I’ve never seen a combination with Lactobacillus gasseri with Lactobacillus reuteri, this may be because the manufacturers have found they compete rather than live symbiotically with each other and if this is the case you should not take them together and have to choose between the combination of either Lactobacillus rhamnous/Lactobacillus gasseri or Lactobacillus rhamnous/Lactobacillus reuteri; if you’re not in a rush and want to do a thorough job to the relaxation response brain training with the Lactobacillus reuteri for four or five months to create long-lasting changes in the way your body processes stress/cortisol, then follow on with long-term use of Lactobacillus rhamnous/Lactobacillus gasseri.
One of the most important things to understand about changing the intestinal microbiota to a healthy condition is that it’s just as important focus on feeding the healthy bacteria with the right diet as it is to just taking probiotic supplements, I believe it’s actually more important to focus on a healthy diet and feeding the bacteria.
The ideal foods to develop a healthy intestinal microbiota are all vegetables (potato chips don’t count!), strongly coloured fruits which basically means berries, beans and lentils significantly see the friendly bacteria in the intestines and for weight loss in particular the regular consumption of nuts the bacteria that encourage weight loss. The next group of remedies are general remedies providing necessary cofactors for everything else to work:

This multiple vitamin/mineral contains methylfolate in place of folic acid, we must avoid taking the synthetic folic acid form of this vitamin just in case you have the MTHFR gene mutation, if you take folic acid and you have this mutation it blocks your ability to manufacture neurotransmitters and control inflammation in your brain. It also contains the right type of methylcobalamin or B12 which further reduces inflammation in place of the more typical cyanocobalamin.
